Where is your rainbow 🌈?

Humans can be very forgetful.

After man fell, sin took over the wheels and veered him totally off the track of God’s plans and purposes.

It wasn’t only a mere misalignment, it was a gross one; One that plunged man into God’s fury and almost earned his race a complete annihilation, but for divine mercy on Noah and his family.

Despite the foreboding of an impending flood, an act I consider as God’s attempt to widen the tent of his mercy, Noah was laughed at and scorned. Men downplayed the veracity of God’s warnings and thought it was impossible for a flood to happen, when a single drop of rain hasn’t even fallen once. It sounded so incredulous to them.

However, God’s words stand true.

The rain did come. It was torrential.

The flood followed.

It became too late for a drowning scorner to realize he shot himself in the foot.

After the flood, God saw how it wreaked great havoc on earth. He saw how it wiped out everything except what he preserved. So, he made a promise not to destroy the earth again with flood.

This story is a cliché to many of us who were brought up in Christian homes. Whenever we see the rainbow, what crosses our minds is the promise God made to Noah.

To me, this scenario kept repeating itself until a particular day when I saw another rainbow, and it was as if I heard God asking me, “where is your own?”

It was quite puzzling to me because it’s very obvious that I can’t make one. Even if I were to gather all the prisms in the world and experiment with my knowledge of optics, I would never get any one close to God’s magnificent masterpiece in the sky.

Little did I know that God wasn’t asking me to make any, he was asking for the object of my covenant with him. He wanted me to dedicate something that will always remind me of the promises I have made to him. He wanted me to always have something that will always remind me of who He is and who I am in Him. He asked because he knows how forgetful I can be.

Whenever the rainbow pops up in the sky, we rejoice not only at its beauty, but also in the consolation that God will not destroy this earth with flood again ( although He will, with fire someday). When God sees the rainbow too, He is also reminded of the promise he made to man.

If God, the almighty, will create something to constantly remind man of His own covenant, how much more we, mortal men.

Over time, I have noticed in the scriptures that God’s actions model a standard for us to adopt if we must please him.

God is not forgetful so he clearly doesn’t need a reminder. Notwithstanding, in order to portray the necessity of being constantly reminded if we must keep our promises, God objectified his covenant.

The rainbow, The 2 slates of His ten commandments, the ark of covenant, the temple, the bronze serpent, etc are various means used by God in his dealings with the old testament folks.

The world is designed to have us forget God but we must fight against it by placing the LORD always before us with anything and by any means that glorifies God.

His greatest sign to our generation is Jesus Christ on the Cross. He loved us so much that he had to show us how much he meant it.

This is a call for us to stop and think of how far we have come in this christian race. What have we left as a proof that we love God? Such that when we see those things, our hearts don’t yearn for them anymore but get reminded of the solemn promise we made never to turn back?

What have we placed before us as a constant reminder of the promises we made to God and how we must be faithful to it?

Whatever that is , is our own form of rainbow.

Where have we placed Jesus in our busy lives today?

The world is designed to have us forget God but we must fight against it by placing the LORD always before us with anything and by any means that glorifies God.

Yes, we have the Holy Spirit, who constantly reminds us, but hello friend! the noise of distraction can drown His still voice if you are not listening enough. You need to have something that reminds you to listen to His voice.

It might be an event, a poster on the wall, His cross on your wall paper, constant reminders on your phone that reminds you of who you are in him, attaching a scripture to your favourite person or spot…etc. The list is endless. We can always ask Him to help us with choosing a perfect rainbow and He will be very glad to help us.

The next time you see a rainbow in the sky, you will not only appreciate its beauty and remember the covenant to Noah, you will also show God your own version of rainbow and He will appreciate the beauty of your consecration(s)or dedication(s).

God bless you.
